Sat.-Wed., May 27 – May 31 - Melbourne: Attend the Rotary International Convention. No Howard Tours’ events or services are scheduled in deference to the Rotary Convention activities.
Thur., - June 1: - Melbourne/Rotorua: Depart Melbourne for Rotorua, New Zealand with a connection in Auckland. Arrive and transfer to your accommodations at Novotel Lakeside Rotorua which includes daily breakfasts.
Fri., June 2 - Rotorua: Located in the heart of New Zealand’s famous thermal region, Rotorua forms part of the geologically active ‘Pacific Rim of Fire’. We explore this town set on the shores of Lake Rotorua. Our journey includes a visit the Agrodome to learn about how sheep and wool are one of New Zealand’s premier exports and see the working sheep dogs at the entertaining Sheep Show. We continue with a visit to the National Kiwi Hatchery. The Kiwi, New Zealand’s national icon, is an endangered species. Our visit showcases how Kiwi recovery programs are playing their part to bring this treasured icon back from the brink of extinction on the New Zealand mainland.
Lunch is included as a tour service with a panoramic view of Lake Rotorua and a transfer by aerial gondola. This afternoon, we take a guided tour of Te Puia to visit the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve to see the boiling mud pools, steaming silica terraces and the geyser activity and the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute where young Maori are learning traditional carving and weaving skills. This evening, we visit a local Maori Village for a Cultural Experience and Dinner.
Sat., June 3 – Rotorua/Auckland: Our day begins by traveling through the Waitomo Cave region. We visit the Ruakuri Cave and get up close to glowworms, elaborate cave formations, underground rivers, myths, legends of these sacred Maori sites. Lunch is included as a tour service.
After lunch, continue through the lush Waikato Valley, famous for its productive dairy industry, over the Bombay Hills before arriving in Auckland. Accommodations at the Stamford Plaza Auckland Hotel including daily breakfasts.
Sun., June 4 – Auckland: Our exploration of the “City of Sails” includes views of the city and harbour from Bastion Point as well as a visit to the Auckland Museum. The museum offers an excellent introduction into the legacy and cultures of the peoples of the Pacific, and Maori art and culture. The balance of the day is free for your independent enjoyment and exploration of this city.
Mon., June 5 - Auckland/Nadi, Fiji: Morning flight from Auckland to Fiji. Upon arrival in Nadi, we transit to our magnificent accommodations at the five-star, beach front Shangri-La Fijian Resort and Spa, which include daily breakfasts. Evening Free.
Tue., June 6 - Suva: Today, we will enjoy an all-day sightseeing excursion into Fijian culture as we travel to and explore the Fijian capital of Suva. Lunch included as a tour service. Free Evening for your personal enjoyment.
Wed., June 7 – Enjoy the Resort: After the active convention and the exploration of New Zealand, today is a perfect day for rest and personal enjoyment at this beautiful resort. Take advantage of the hotel’s extensive activities including diving, snorkeling, sport fishing, etc. This evening, we attend a special dinner and Polynesian cultural show which tells the story of a Fijian community which has been gifted a sacred flame that is said to hold magical powers.
Thur., June 8 – Enjoy the Resort: This is the last day in paradise and you have the entire day for yourself. Enjoy the beach, go to the spa, read a book, or sleep in. The time is yours.
Fri., June 9 - Nadi/Return Home: Morning free for independent pursuits. This afternoon transfer to the Nadi airport to depart on Air New Zealand to Los Angeles.
