6th Annual West Africa Project Fair and Village Immunization Program
November 01 - November 09, 2010
When you look into the eyes of a child whose life you have changed, you will be forever different.
Wed., Nov. 3 - Arrive in Accra: Evening arrival in Accra. Airport/hotel transfer provided for group members arriving on specified flights. Accommodations are at the first class Novotel Accra Hotel, including daily breakfasts.
Thu., Nov. 4 – Accra:
Morning
exploration of Accra. An Intercity Rotary lunch will be included as a tour
event. After lunch, we will visit the U.S. Embassy for a cultural, economic
and political briefing. Free evening for rest.
Fri., Nov. 5 - Immunization Program: Today, we will divide into smaller groups to join with the local Rotarians who will take us into communities in and around Accra to distribute Guinea-worm and other essential vaccines. Today’s emotional experience is identical to participating in a polio eradication exercise. Evening welcome reception hosted by local Rotarians.
Sat., Nov. 6 - Community Service/Humanitarian Day: Today, we will divide into smaller groups to be paired with the local clubs to create friendships and be exposed to the community service and humanitarian programs of the Accra Rotary clubs. We expect to engage in a hands on project with many of the clubs. Lunch provided by local Rotarians. This evening, we will enjoy a home hospitality event.
Sun., Nov. 7 - West Africa Project Fair: All day engagement with Rotarians from 15 West African host nations. We will enjoy the Opening Ceremony, and get a better understanding of the Rotary Foundation’s engagement in Africa. Lunch is provided. This evening, as a part of the Project Fair activities, we attend a special dinner event.
Mon., Nov. 8 - West Africa Project Fair: Today, the project fair booths will be open. We visit with clubs from all over West Africa to learn about their projects and see how we can join them in addressing their humanitarians needs. Lunch included. Tonight we enjoy a special closing event with dinner and a cultural show.
Tue., Nov. 9 - Accra/Elmina/Cape Coast: This morning, we begin exploring Ghana by traveling to Cape Coast. Lunch provided en route. Upon our arrival, we will visit Elmina Castle, built in 1482 by the Portuguese, where slaves bound for Europe and America were stored. This evening, we continue enjoy a special dinner/show event at the Coconut Grove. Elmina Beach Resort accommodations including breakfast.
Wed., Nov. 10 - Cape Coast/Kumasi: This morning, we travel to Kakum National Park, to enjoy the magnificent canopy walk, before continuing to Kumasi, the capital of the famous Ashanti Kingdom. Lunch and dinner provided. Accommodations at Golden Tulip Hotel, including daily breakfast.
Thu., Nov. 11 - Kumasi: All day sightseeing in this famous city, including visits to the Ashantehene’s Palace, Bonwire market, etc. where you will be able to shop and continue our exploration of Ghana. Lunch provided.
Fri., Nov. 12 - Kumasi/Accra/Depart for Home: Sightseeing en route to Accra, with lunch provided. This evening, we depart for home.
