Sat., July 1 - Depart home for Guatemala City: Upon arrival we will be transferred to our accommodations at the Westin Camino Real Hotel, including daily breakfast. Free evening.
Sun., July 2: Guatemala City/Lake Atitlan: We depart for a journey to the picturesque, mountain lake region of Lake Atitlan. Lunch is provided as a tour service en route. We continue our travels to Sololá, near Lake Atitlan, to visit RACHEL schools to see the impact of this educational programs Guatemala’s remote areas. Our day concludes at our lakeside accommodations at the Hotel Atitlan, which includes daily breakfasts. This evening is free for rest, or to explore the town of Panajachel.
Mon., July 3 – Lake Atitlan: This morning, we take boats across Lake Atitlan to the small community of San Lucas Tolimán, to see the result of a grant by the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz, which installed a Sunspring water filtration system. This system, not only provided clean water to a small, rural village, but it gave birth to a coffee plantation that provides income to the community. After our visit, we will return to the Hotel Atitlan so you can either lunch at the hotel, or take a 5 minute tuk-tuk ride into Panajachel for a group dinner at a local restaurant.
Tue., July 4 – Lake Atitlan/Antigua: This morning we continue to the charming, colonial town of Antigua. Accommodations at the Casa de Santo Domingo, including daily breakfast. Lunch and the afternoon are free for individual enjoyment and exploration. Antigua is a walkable town filled with many charming restaurants and shops. The evening is free for individual enjoyment.
Wed., July 5 - Antigua: Today, is a free day for individual enjoyment. Feel free to explore the local market, the many arts and crafts shops, take a walking tour with a local guide or take a hike up to Cerro de la Cruz, for a beautiful view of Antigua. This evening, our group will join the Faces of Hope team for a evening cocktail party.
Thu., July 6 - Antigua: We venture outside of Antigua to visit the Guatemala Literacy Project (GLP) in San Pedro Yepocapa. Supported by a number of clubs in District 5170, GLP is one of the largest grassroots, multi-club, multi-district project in Rotary, with more than 800 clubs and 90 district working to improve education for underserved students in Guatemala. More than 280,000 student have been served since the program began. This afternoon is free for last minute shopping or individual enjoyment.
Fri., July 7 – Depart for home: Early morning transfer to Guatemala City and the airport for our flights home.
